About
Rich Abrams is Head of Onshore Renewables at ABL Group. He has been working in renewables for 16 years and is responsible for onshore wind, solar and energy storage technologies. He has a BSc in Astrophysics and an MSc in Atmospheric Sciences.
Rich began his career in renewables as a wind analyst, starting at Garrad Hassan (later DNV) in 2005 and working on various resource assessments initially in India and China. He moved to Zaragoza in Spain and later to San Diego in the US for four years where he specialised in very large or complex projects. After 3 years at Vattenfall assessing their 1GW offshore wind portfolio and supporting in the development of their pipeline, he joined OST (later RINA) to start a successful wind business, later becoming a Technical Director for Renewables and Head of Energy Storage at RINA.
Having been involved in all mainstream renewables technologies, Rich has led various teams as project director including: a portfolio technical due diligence for the sale of 7GW of onshore, offshore and floating wind assets; solar PV expert witness assignments focussed on construction quality and regulatory requirements; technical due diligence and owner’s engineer for various BESS projects in the UK, Ireland and Malawi; bifacial PV R&D with a focus on albedo and module response; technical ‘smart’ PPA assessments for wind and solar plants in UK and Australia; battery energy storage techno-economic study for World Bank in Mexico; a detailed feasibility study for a green hydrogen facility and Scotland.
