About
Peter has worked in the marine and oil industry for over forty years on four continents. His career began in the South African merchant navy, sailing as a marine engineer on general cargo and container vessels. After coming ashore, he worked in the combustion engineering field before joining Durban’s BP Southern Africa Technical division. Peter then transferred to the regional head office in Cape Town and later to the global head office in London. Peter returned to South Africa, establishing the BP Marine Africa team, and was responsible for all marine activities in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Tanzania, and Kenya. He has extensive experience in technical troubleshooting & problem-resolution related to marine lubricants and fuels performance and operations. He has carried out marine casualty investigations as Principal Surveyor and has been involved in all aspects of surveying, including vessel salvage, Hull & Machinery surveys, P&I surveys, and JH Warranty surveys. Peter is a certified Lubrication Specialist (STLE) and a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST). He has provided expert witness testimony in court and during arbitrations in marine matters.
