Marine Casualty Expert Ivan Moriarty joins ABL USA
In strengthening our growing marine casualty and offshore team in the US, ABL recently asked long-time employee and senior principal surveyor, Capt. Ivan Moriarty to relocate with his family from the lush tropics of Singapore to the wilds of Texas.
Ivan moves from the APAC region to the US with nearly a decade of experience, specialising in towage, marine warranty surveys, and DP2 operations.
Key Contributions:
- A former Master Mariner, Ivan has 18 years of seagoing experience on European coastal vessels, including container ships. He later served as a master on platform supply vessels.
- During his tenure on PSVs, Ivan mastered the operation of DP2 vessels and played a key role in designing and delivering new builds.
- Transitioning ashore in 2014, Ivan has been a marine surveyor for major marine consultancies in Asia, conducting pre-purchase inspections and casualty investigations for stakeholders like Insurers, P&I Clubs, and H&M.
Specialisations:
Ivan’s expertise lies in towage, marine warranty surveys, and DP2 operations. He has represented numerous offshore anchor barge moves and is a proud member of the Society of Offshore Marine Warranty Surveyors.
Reflections and Future Plans:
Ivan, a real people person, shares his initial experience in the USA region and his aspirations:
“I hope to do all sorts of marine and energy jobs in Houston and I’m looking forward to getting more involved in casualties and legal work. I’m keen on personally meeting and collaborating with the region’s brokers, underwriters and maritime lawyers at local maritime events and committees.
I believe that highlighting ABL’s global footprint is crucial. Combining it with our expertise in marine casualty management, vessel and marine surveys, salvage services, oil and gas, and energy is an invaluable asset to our clients.
As for my first impressions, I have really enjoyed my first meetings with the local market and clients. Listening and engaging with them, particularly during surveys and inspections, fosters trust and builds relationships to help navigate the marine industries tides of change.”
Capt. Ivan Moriarty, Snr Principal Surveyor
