About
Paul is a Master Mariner (Unlimited) with around 40 years’ maritime experience including 9 years as a pilot, 10 years in consultancy, and latterly was the marine manager at an international maritime law firm where he gained valuable legal insight. Whilst at sea, he mainly served on passenger vessels and ferries, but also has experience on oil, gas, container, general cargo, coastal, and naval vessels.
Paul specialises in accident investigation and frequently attends casualties and fixed object damage to collect contemporaneous evidence, take statements, and to carry out WP damage surveys. His knowledge of ship handling and port operations prove particularly valuable, especially when investigating unsafe port/berth claims. He is also experienced in cargo issues such as liquification, container loss, and shifted break bulk cargo. Paul also has significant experience in salvage having acted for P&I clubs as the company representative in high profile cases.
Paul is qualified in interview techniques, is a qualified expert witness, and has completed the nautical institute navigation assessor course. He is also familiar with AIS reconstructions, VDR and ECDIS playbacks.
